Ensuring that children are ready to be successful in school is one of RISE’s most urgent issues. Evidence has shown that children who are prepared for school will be more successful in school, less likely to drop out of school, and will earn more as adults.
In the fall of 2016, 45% of Treasure Valley kindergartners tested below benchmark on the fall Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI). Children who enter kindergarten without the basic skills they need to succeed in school rarely catch up to their peers without resource-intensive early intervention.
The Prepared for School partners work to help young children develop the skills needed to be ready for school. Partners use data to guide their efforts, collectively mobilize the community, and utilize existing resources to ensure children and families are physically, socially, academically, and emotionally prepared for school and life.
